Between May 1916 and October 1917, Chaplin produced his finest short comedies. This was the tenth of Charlie's twelve comedies. When 'The Cure' was released on April 16, 1917, drunkenness was a very serious problem among the working classes, so to make his comic drunk funny, Charlie Chaplin put aside his tramp character to become a wealthy fop. Gout, which here afflicts "heavy" Eric Campbell, was also thought a rich man's disease. This is just a hilarious snippet from 'The Cure.
